I like hyvee. They have more staff than other market. And more fresh. The seafood is ok.

Coming from a pedigree of grocery retail employees and a discerning shopper, it was suggested by my BIL that I check out his hometown chain. Upon walking in I was bedazzled by the clean floors, sharp decor and clear signage. This store is huge and for good reason! It's practically the only game in town next to Walmart and a chain starting up in town called Fareway according to a very reliable local source. It boasts full service offerings like Chinese Express, Italian Express and a salad bar! Other than Whole Foods it seems as if true salad bars like this one have gone to the wayside. BIL and I walked the aisles for a while because he was determined for me to see as much value in this store as he had for years. Hy-vee really is the store that has a smile in every aisle as the jingle my BIL insists on singing so aptly states. I'll be back!

I've shopped this store for years, generally due to convenience and the lack of significant competition in the area. Recent renovations have furthered the stores quest as a one-stop destination. As with any grocery store, the selection varies, so specific items may need to be obtained elsewhere. Overall, though, the selection is adequate. Store brands are of average to above average quality with some items being better than their name brand dopplegangers. Prices vary but deals can be had by watching the advertisements. The Fuel-Saver program is a bonus but only if available on your normal items. Don't get sucked in by buying something more expensive just to save a penny per gallon. Deli, Italian and Chinese counters are pretty good but sometimes it seems the food may have been sitting a bit. Staff is friendly and helpful but therein lies my only quibble; the bagging. I may be biased since I bagged groceries when younger, but it isn't that hard to bag properly. Cold stuff together, boxes and cans together, crushables together. Rarely do they get it right. And I send it down the conveyor that way. Oh well, not a deal breaker.

Hyvee is definitely the spot to hit up in the IC area. Great store that has a really good selection of just about everything and keeps it classy with well dressed baggers in the check out aisles! This one doesn't have the greatest parking lot, especially in the spring/summer when they've got the plant area out front, but overall it's not terrible parking wise. The magic happens inside anyways! Good meat section, good cheese selection, above average beer/wine selection and friendly employees that make the experience very pleasant!

Best place to get breakfast in Iowa City without getting reamed. They also serve lots of fresh and frozen foods in boxes and bags, not the most convenient for eating but better if you want to take it home later and prepare it yourself (I should subtract a star for this, what kind of restaurant sells you food that you have to cook yourself???)

As a long time user of this pharmacy, I have to say that lately things have been hit or miss there. Two prescriptions this month, from two different doctors, were not received or filled incorrectly. Once, the wrong dosage tablet was given - a potentially life-threatening situation had I not noticed. I can only imagine this is a problem caused by new interns, and would like to see them better supervised. But over the years, the regular pharmacists have been extremely conscientious, given me great service, information and advice on over the counter medicines.
